Captured Memos

A Visual Journey Through Moments in Time

Brandy Rock

My village is surrounded by mountains. This mountain brings beauty to our village. I captured this two views in 2022.

Brandy Rock is a unique rock located in Matale.  Its height is 1130 meters.  The Rock is hidden by Wiltshire at the foot of the Knuckles Range. It is a famous trekking area.  When you climb to the top of the mountain, you can even see the Mahaweli river.  Here you can see many species of plants, animals like cattle and even small waterfalls.

You might wonder how this mountain got its name as Brandy Rock. Western invaders chose this rock to spend time relaxing while drinking Brandy. Foreigners have continued this practice; however, this was made abandoned, influenced by environmentalists and now preserved as another botanical garden affiliated to Peradeniya.

One myth here is that of the "vedi yaka". A demon preys on hikers. There is a small temple before climbing the hill. People who come to climb the mountain climb the mountain after going to the temple.
However, this mountain made more beauty for our village.

This picture is my favorite picture in my gallery.  This cat was my best friend. Cats are stress relievers. There is one myth about cats. So they ward off dark forces and they protect us. It is a very old myth that is still believed today. A few days ago I read an article. In regarding to article , cat owners are smart and intelligent.

The cat in this picture is my best friend. He was always by my side. He was the best friend who was alone,  when studying, eating and even sleeping. When I am not at home, he passed away in an accident. There are no one can compare like him. I will never had a friend like him.

Kapuru

My aunt (mother's younger sister) does flower plant trading. This chrysanthemum flower plant was the most sought after flower plant.

"The chrysanthemum, a resilient and revered flower, embodies a timeless symbol of beauty and endurance. Its delicate petals unfold in an array of vibrant hues, ranging from soft pastels to bold, striking tones, captivating the beholder with its sheer diversity. Revered in various cultures, the chrysanthemum holds rich symbolism, representing longevity, joy, and fidelity in some traditions, while in others, it signifies purity and rebirth. This flower's graceful demeanor and ability to thrive in diverse climates mirror its adaptability, often earning it a place in gardens, art, and literature. As autumn arrives, the chrysanthemum stands proudly, its blossoms adorning landscapes, evoking a sense of seasonal transition and a reminder of nature's beauty amid change."
